Green Cities 2014 – an unprecedented conference in Poland

Between 19th – 20th May 2014 a scientific international conference Green Cities 2014- Green Logistics for Greener Cities was held in Szczecin. It was devoted to urban logistics with particular emphasis on issues connected with environmental protection and reducing negative effects of urban transport of goods on the environment.

Sustainable Transport Development Day at the Faculty of Economics and Engineering of Transport

Lecture delivered by Prof. Russel G. Thompson from the University of Melbourne
Sustainable Transport Development Day was held at the Faculty of Engineering and Economics of Transport on 22nd May. Its purpose was to familiarize students with basic issues concerning the idea of sustainable transport and demonstrate the necessity of appropriate measures in that scope.

On the 16th May 2014 the RIS-Odra Centre was officially launched during an opening ceremony attended by Prof Dorota Pyć -Vice-Minister of Infrastructure and Development, Mr Marek Talasiewicz – Voivode of the Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship and Mr Wojciech Dróżdż - Vice-Marshal of Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeship.

University Celebrations and Reunion of the year 1974 graduates of the Maritime University of Szczecin

This year’s program of University Celebrations was accompanied by the 40th anniversary of graduation of the first Alumni of the Maritime University from 1974. About 30 graduates, both from Poland and abroad, arrived to their Alma Mater. Vice-Minister of Infrastructure and Development, Mrs Dorota Pyć, attended the ceremony.

During a two-day visit in the Zachodniopomorskie voivodeship (14th – 15th May 2014) Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy Janusz Piechociński visited the Maritime University of Szczecin. He met the University authorities and visited simulator laboratories.

Cooperation agreement with Polska Grupa Energetyczna SA (The PGE Capital Group ) signed – benefits to the industry and to the Maritime University of Szczecin

On 17th April 2014 the Maritime University of Szczecin signed an agreement on cooperation in the area of science and technology with PGE Górnictwo i Energetyka Konwencjonalna SA (The PGE Capital Group - Lignite Mining and Conventional Power Generation). The objective is to modernise the teaching process and to carry out joint actions as regards research, development and science.

Simulator-based Centre for Marine Pilots Training

Maritime University of Szczecin is planning to open the first in Poland Simulator-based Centre for Marine Pilots Training. The University has already signed a respective Letter of intent with the company Szczecin Pilot Sp. z o.o. The Centre will be a certified facility for training marine pilots and running courses in the area of port safety.

The title of professor in the field of engineering conferred on the Dean of the Marine Engineering Faculty.

The President of the Republic of Poland, Bronisław Komorowski, acting upon a motion from Central Commission for Degrees and Titles and by virtue of his decision of 7th January 2014, granted the title of full professor in the field of engineering to the Dean of the Marine Engineering Faculty, Janusz Grabian, PhD Eng, associate professor at MUS.

Jarosław Artyszuk – a new “doktor habilitowany”  at the Faculty of Navigation

On 20th March 2014, Mr Jarosław Artyszuk, PhD and Senior deck officer, a member of staff of the Navigation Faculty, successfully passed his postdoctoral examination (habilitation colloquium) before the Council of the Transport Faculty at the Warsaw Technical University. As a result, he was granted the title of doktor habilitowany (Polish higher doctoral degree) in the field of technical sciences, area of transport.

Gaslog revisits the OSRM (Training Centre of the Maritime University of Szczecin) to participate in a Freefall Lifeboat course.

MUS Training Centre has just commenced another season of Freefall Life Boat courses. First edition in 2014, launched on 14 March, was attended by a group of employees from a Greek company Gaslog LNG Sevices Ltd with whom the Centre established a fruitful cooperation last year. Satisfied with the quality of training provided and with comprehensive organisational solutions, also this year Gaslog continues to enrol its employees to the courses.
