MUS Training Centre has just commenced another season of Freefall Life Boat courses. First edition in 2014, launched on 14 March, was attended by a group of employees from a Greek company Gaslog LNG Sevices Ltd with whom the Centre established a fruitful cooperation last year. Satisfied with the quality of training provided and with comprehensive organisational solutions, also this year Gaslog continues to enrol its employees to the courses.

The duration of the 4-phased Freefall Lifeboat course is one day. The Training Centre is responsible for organizing airport transport for course participants, making hotel reservations, providing catering and any assistance during their stay in Poland. During the first phase, Greek participants became acquainted with theory on FFLB such as construction and equipment of the boat, its operation mechanisms, safety procedures and regulations to be observed during the dropping of the boat into the water, hoisting and fixing the boat back on-board.

The second part of the course consisted in hands-on training, the aim of which was to apply the theory obtained in real situations. It is the most spectacular and most awaited phase of the training, which generates additionally great interest among other people present in the Centre at that time. With regard to safety of the participants being of utmost concern, practical activities are always carried out in the presence of marine life guard and a paramedic. The boat is dropped from a 10-meter tower with course participants inside, supervised by an instructor. The latter constantly monitors the correctness of the boat and course participants’ preparation to water landing. Each person has a specific place and task assigned by the instructor who, at all times, provides clear instructions as to proper manner of fastening safety belts and verifies it a number of times. The FFLB drop is carried out several times so as to allow each participant to take over the position of a cox.

Customarily, the course is concluded with a short summary of the knowledge acquired and presenting the participants with completion certificates. Gaslog has already declared sending subsequent group of employees to Szczecin to attend courses organised by the Training Centre.
