On 17th April 2014 the Maritime University of Szczecin signed an agreement on cooperation in the area of science and technology with PGE Górnictwo i Energetyka Konwencjonalna SA (The PGE Capital Group - Lignite Mining and Conventional Power Generation). The objective is to modernise the teaching process and to carry out joint actions as regards research, development and science.
Under the agreement, Zespół Elektrowni Dolna Odra (local power plants group) will provide students of our University with the opportunity of completing work placements in their premises – the plant will be able to host a few to over ten persons per semester. PGE staff will benefit through participating in courses, trainings as well as in postgraduate programmes offered by the University. Moreover, research laboratories of the University will be made available to PGE in return for contributing to technological advancement of those laboratories.
“The synergy effect is excellent,” says the Director of PGE Branch Zespół Elektrowni Dolna Odra, Mr Wojciech Dobrak.
“The possibility of having the Maritime University of Szczecin as a partner is, in my opinion, a very positive thing.”
According to Mr Dobrak it is also possible that the University will partake in the development and construction of new power units.
“I am happy that the potential of our University may prove advantageous to such a big consortium. All the more that our projects are practicable, ready to be implemented in industry,” emphasised prof. Stanislaw Gucma, the Rector of the University.
According to the Vice Rector for Science, Artur Bejger, PhD, the University’s laboratories have a simulation aptitude the industry frequently lacks. The industry sector, in turn, may indicate which systems should be installed on the simulators to increase their capacity with an aim of continuous research quality improvement.
Furthermore, jointly organised scientific conferences and publications will be carried out, with significant expert contribution from Dolna Odra engineers. The agreement is a framework one – in the future it will be possible to expand it onto other cooperation areas through separate, additional covenants.
