C-LIEGE at “Skandynawigacje 2012 Conference”

Stanislaw Iwan, PhD thanks to the invitation of the Marshal Office of the West Pomeranian Province presented a C-Liege project at "Skandynawigacje 2012" Conference, which was held in Warsaw on 21 March 2012. Among the many issues discussed, the issue of Poland as a transit country between Scandinavia and Southern Europe was also a part devoted to SoNorA project.

Computerized future ships

Can a ship sail without a crew? Is it possible to remotely control a ship and use automated systems based on fuzzy logic and neural networks to drive a floating unit? –here are the information technologies of the future of the Maritime University of Szczecin. Employees of the Faculty of Navigation, Maritime University of Szczecin, had the pleasure to be hosted by the computer programs of Polish Radio Szczecin ‘To be old hat’.

Unidentified object ... at the bottom

Baltic Sea - still unrecognized with unidentified objects at the bottom. Strange elevations and depressions at the bottom… What can be hidden under a layer of gravel and sand of the sea? This question can answer Multi-beam sonar for hydrographic measurements, the latest arrival of Navigator XXI. Echo sounder with equipment represents the latest research position to build a prototype of a multi-layered electronic map of marine areas.

23rd February 2012, in the premises of the Maritime University of Szczecin the first working meeting of the C-LIEGE project was held. The meeting was attended by project team members of C-LIEGE from Szczecin and Germany, as well as university and business representatives of the City of Szczecin, West Marshal's Office, the Regional Police Headquarters and the Board of Maritime Ports of Szczecin and Swinoujscie.

As a result of bad weather conditions in the first half of February (very low temperatures, ice flow on the Oder River) training centers in Szczecin couldn’t organize any practical drills in the water and consequently cancelled the courses.
