The MUS students took part in workshops on inspection of the ship simulator, organized by Students' Scientific Association METACENT in Det Norske Veritas (DNV) in Gdynia.
On March 9, 2012 a group of 34 students of the second year of study (24 from the Faculty of Navigation and 10 from the Faculty of Marine Engineering) participated in the workshop, which took place in Gdynia, the headquarters of Det Norske Veritas Poland, a Norwegian company, which among others deals with the classification of ships and maritime training. The workshop was organized by the Student Research Club METACENT, whose patron is Zbigniew Szozda, PhD. All second or third year students of FN and FME, whose applications for participation were accepted, could attend the workshop consisting of the following stages:
- general presentation by the Director of DNV DNV Poland, Mr. Anders Swerke (in English);
- presentation of the branch which deals with the classification of vessels;
- presentation of the DNV activities related to the wind energy;
- Ship Inspection Simulator presentation (it was the main objective of the workshop);
- group training on the simulator inspection of the ship,
- tour around the selected areas, DNV Poland.
Students were familiarized with the simulator inspection of the ship, and had the opportunity to work on it individually on their training positions. The simulator is mainly used for technical training of inspectors carrying out inspections of ships, and can also be used for training. It is a unique device in the world. In addition, students can familiarize themselves with selected departments DNV Poland (eg stability, hull, IT departments). The Workshops provided students with lots of new technical information concerning the operation of ships, which they highly evaluated. Students could also check their progress in the understanding of English since the first presentation was in English. It is possible that next year another group of students will have similar opportunities.
