On 6-10.03.2012 Maritime University took part in major international trade fair of information technologies and digital industry, CeBIT 2012 in Hanover. Show theme was "Safety in the digital world" (Managing Trust).

Faculty of Navigation, Maritime University of Szczecin presented the invention NAVDEC - navigational system for decision support on board. NAVDEC is the world's first navigation tool which apart from its informative function, carries out tasks typical for decision support systems. NAVDEC is to observe the ship and its surroundings, as well as record information about the navigational situation. On this basis it identifies and evaluates it and sets out proposed solutions, ensuring safe navigation.

The invention developed by a team led by Assoc.Prof. Zbigniew Pietrzykowski, consisting of: Peter Wołejsza, PhD, Janusz Magaj, MSc, Piotr Borkowski, MSc, Jaroslaw Chomsky, MSc, Janusz Uriah, PhD, Capt. Tadeusz Dziedzic, MSc, Marcin Mąka, PhD, Witold Kazimierski, PhD,. Thomas Szewczuk MSc,. Miroslaw Wielgosz.

The creators of the system told the visitors: - It is a system which assists the navigator in decision making. It gives the answer, how to act in a given situation.

Employees of Marine Technology Transfer Centre supported the faculty in the field for business partners to implement the system. A series of talks B2B (business to business), and organized several mini-conferences:-We are very pleased to participate in this international event. We would like to thank the Marshal, the City of Szczecin and the Regional Centre for Technology Transfer and Innovation for their support in preparing the trip to the fair and cooperation exchange Future Match. The experience of this event is for us not to be underestimated. - Says Konrad Frontczak of CTTM.

CeBIT is the largest and most important trade fair for the digital world held annually in Hanover since 1986. The key to the success of this event is its unique formula, which means a combination of exhibitions, conferences and lectures as well as corporate events and talks on the sidelines. It is due to CeBIT that new business contacts are possible; it also give an impetus to the industry and helps to achieve market success. In 2011, over 700 exhibitors in Hanover offered their products and services. The event served by 5000 journalists, 339.000 guests visited the fair in the capital of Lower Saxony.

Apart from the West Pomeranian University of Technology (Faculty of Computer Science ZUT with the solution “Eye Tracker”) at the Fair we were joined by the City of Szczecin representatives and the Office of the Marshal of the West Pomeranian Province.
