Baltic Sea - still unrecognized with unidentified objects at the bottom. Strange elevations and depressions at the bottom… What can be hidden under a layer of gravel and sand of the sea? This question can answer Multi-beam sonar for hydrographic measurements, the latest arrival of Navigator XXI. Echo sounder with equipment represents the latest research position to build a prototype of a multi-layered electronic map of marine areas.
Purchased, due to the Fund of Polish Science and Technology, Multi-beam echo sounder EM 710 has passed all types of technical acceptance, trial operation and technical tests carried out on the high seas. In the first maiden voyage testing the Pomeranian Bay there were discovered objects unmarked on navigational charts. The surprise was all the more because of the size of the discovered object suggesting that it is probably a wreck of a small fishing boat or a lost container.
In order to verify the data and obtain a full picture of the found object, third-year students of Hydrographic Survey and Aids to Navigation during their seamanship training on the Navigator XXI will conduct detailed studies thanks to Multi-beam sonar and underwater side sonar. Will the test results surprise us? We shall see ... on the sonar picture.
