In connection to the media information on the theft of personal data of the Maritime University students, the University states that there was no intrusion on university servers, there has been no break of network security. Publicly available data do not come from the Virtual University- Dean’s office electronic system.
Details of some students and alumni were stolen from one of our university units. The cause was an error of software purchased from an outside company. The defective software allowed for unauthorized access to address database of people who register in this system. Sensitive data such as PESEL or bank account numbers are safe.
Within tens of minutes from the moment of obtaining the information, access to potential systems that could be a source of data leakage was blocked.
In connection to the situation University Centre for Information Technology, Maritime University, strongly recommends to change passwords of the disclosed data if the same passwords were used to log to other systems.
Having verified the accuracy of the data, the case was immediately transferred to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.
