On May 11, 2012 a group of second-year students of the field of navigation, members of the Scientific Society METACENT, took part in workshops held at the Centre for Marine Hydromechanics of CTO SA in Gdansk. During the workshops, students had the opportunity to get acquainted with techniques and devices used in ship models and the current activities of the Centre, including employment and internship or practice opportunities.
The workshop began with a general presentation of the Centre and the scope of its activities. Then students visited the various departments of the Centre. The greatest interest aroused pool model, which is more than 260m long and 12m wide. The pool model is equipped with a special platform to move the models, whose maximum speed is 12 m/s and a lot of measuring devices.
In addition to the workshop, students had the opportunity to see the wind tunnel, to study the position of cavitations and pattern shop. Another interesting object, arousing great interest was the newly built ship model, which will be powered by solar energy. OHO manager, Mr. Wojciech Gorski, declared free transfer of the vessel model to the students of the Faculty of Navigation to be used by members of the business METACENT Society.
