It is with deep regret to inform you that on Jan. 26, 2013, died Prof. Krzysztof Chwesiuk, Vice-Rector for Science of the Maritime University of Szczecin.

Professor Chwesiuk was born in 1949 in Biala Podlaska. He was a graduate of the Warsaw University of Technology, Department of Transportation (PW), holder of PhD degree in. technical sciences in the field of computer science applications. In 1983 he was habilitated and conferred the title of assistant professor; in 1993 he was granted the title of full professor.
He worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Transport WUT, assistant and lecturer at the Institute for System Research, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Economics and a professor at the Faculty of Transport and Communications of the Technical University of Szczecin. In 1991-1994 and 1996-1999 he was Deputy Dean for students at the Faculty of Transport and Communications of the University of Szczecin.

In 1991, he joined the Faculty of Navigation (Institute of Ports and Fleet Operation) then Maritime University (WSM) in Szczecin. In 1999, was representative of the Rector of the WSM for Transport and the Director of the Institute of Transport.. He had a great contribution to the creation of the MUS youngest faculty - Economics and Transport Engineering (WI-ET) - creating it from the very beginning and being its first dean, he held the office for two terms, 2002-2005 and 2005-2008.

He taught as a professor of the current Maritime University of Szczecin; directing the work of the teams of transport economics and feasibility study of Swinoujscie roads modernization. He used his knowledge in teaching and research, as well as an invaluable consultancy work in the field of transport, logistics and information technology, led the logistics and information technology department, where he has created a strong team of respected researchers. He has supervised several doctoral dissertations and several of his graduate students are currently tutors of FETE/WIET.
The scope of the research included, among others, organization and management of transport technologies, transport economics and innovations. He was the author of numerous publications, including monographs and the handbook ‘The rationalization of rail transport process’ (1982), an expert of the UN European Economic Commission, the President of Szczecin branch of the Federation of Engineering Organizations of the Chief Engineering Association (NOT), a member of the Polish Economic Society and the Association of Engineers and Technicians of Communications. He managed the work and collaborated in the implementation of approximately 150 scientific issues concerning the rationalization of transport. He was awarded, among others, with NOT Gold Medal and Gold Medal of the Association of Engineers and Technicians of Communications.

Always engaged and committed to his work from 2008, he was a Vice-Rector for Science at the Maritime University of Szczecin.
He enjoyed the sympathy of his undergraduate and graduate students as well as his colleagues.
