The signatories of the agreement were: inspector Jacek Cegieła, the Chief of the Provincial Police in Szczecin and Wojciech Ślączka, PhD. Eng., Master Mariner, Professor of MUS, Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin.

The aim of the cooperation between MUS and the Police is to support all initiatives and joint activities for the benefit of improving road traffic safety and motoring culture among road traffic participants as well as institutions and organisations supporting the activities in Szczecin and the region. - I am glad that, except for the Faculty’s intensive cooperation with business, it is also involved in projects, which are beneficial for all of us. The research to be conducted as a part of this cooperation will benefit the inhabitants of the Szczecin Metropolitan Area - said Rector Wojciech Ślączka.

The key element for us will be the development of new projects for improvement of road traffic safety and their active implementation, as in the case of the project targeted at improvement of safety on pedestrian crossings, which is already being carried out. We believe that cooperating with the Police, the Maritime University of Szczecin may use the knowledge and experience: daily observations and analysis results - to create a friendly space for all road users. - It is important to use the scientific knowledge and equipment owned by the University in practice - said Chief Jacek Cegieła. - This cooperation will enable it - he added.

Joint work for thorough understanding of the requirements and determinants of the multi-aspect improvement of road traffic safety in the city and the region, especially in the context of “non-protected” participants, is a chance to give a positive example of cooperation between the local government, the inhabitants, the entrepreneurs and the scientists dealing with transport issues. Based on a wider perspective, we will undertake initiatives the positive results of which will be felt by all inhabitants and may even become an inspiration for other regions.
