The Maritime University Choir conducted by Sylvia Fabiańczyk-Makuch won the third place at the 42nd Nationwide Choir Competition in Legnica ‘Legnica Cantat’! On 28 May, this year in Legnica the 42nd National Choirs Tournament "Legnica Cantat" took place. It is the most important and highest-ranking of this type of festivals in Poland. To qualify for the festival is a great honor. Based on the submitted CD and DVD recordings, the Festival Artistic Council has selected twelve of the more than twenty reported choirs.
Szczecin Maritime University Choir under the direction of Sylvia Fabiańczyk-Makuch, founded in 2003, belonged to the qualified. Among the participants there were well-known Polish teams from all over the country, including Warsaw, Poznan, Wroclaw and Lublin. Choir of the Maritime University unveiled a 44-voice ensemble and performed at the auditions five songs, including Maritime Psalm by Marek Jasinski, dedicated to the team and their conductor. Severe and systematic work of young singers has been recognized by the international jury chaired by Prof. Krzysztof Szydzisz, which granted the MUS choir the third place.
Chairman of the jury said that for years the festival was not such a high level of performance, the more it is a great honor for such a young team yet. It is also worth mentioning that due to the choir great interest in Maritime University of Szczecin in the audience and participants of the festival has been raised. The MUS Choir has proven to be at the forefront of the best Polish choirs.
In recent years, the Choir was awarded at the following prestigious national festivals: in Wejherowo (2008 – I place), in Brodnica (2009 - Grand Prix), at Chelmno (2010 - Grand Prix) and Rumia (2010 - I place), as well as competition in Rimini - Italy (2009 - silver diploma). At this year’s festival, “Legnica Cantat” grand prize – Ruby Lute received the Academic Choir of the Warsaw University conducted by Irina Bogdanovich.
