27.06.2015 was the World Hydrography Day. The national celebrations were held for the second time in Szczecin. The main theme was: "Oceans, seas and sailing routes - still waiting for complete examination and cartographic compilation".
During a conference held in the Maritime University building, the subject matter of underwater research was discussed as regards presentation of modern systems, technologies as well as research methods and techniques. Also, during the meeting, medals were given that commemorated the 95th anniversary of the Hydrographic Office of the Polish Navy.
Numerous vessels representing the Polish hydrographic “services” were moored at Wały Chrobrego:
- the Maritime University of Szczecin vessels: the inland water vessel - Hydrograf XXI and the offshore vessel - Nawigator XXI;
- the vessels of the Maritime Office in Szczecin: Kastor, Wega, Syriusz, Planeta;
- the vessels of the Navy: Mewa and MH1 hydrographic motor boat;
- Jędrek owned by UW Service.
The visitors had the opportunity to visit each of the moored vessels, take part in a demonstration cruise, gain some hydrography knowledge as well as have a go at working with an underwater robot.
A workshop in Qimera hydrographic software was held on board Nawigator XXI, whereas on board Hydrograf XXI it was possible to operate the underwater robot and specialist equipment for conducting underwater research.
Both research vessels were proudly presented by employees of the Maritime University of Szczecin:
- an employee of the Operation Section of Nawigator XXI - Marcin Szymczak, MA with the ship crew.
- employees of the Institute of Geoinformatics: category A hydrographers: Professor Andrzej Stateczny, Grzegorz Zaniewicz, PhD., Eng., Izabela Bodus-Olkowska, Msc. and Hydrograf XXI vessel operation employee - Klaudia Zawadzka, Eng.
