National Centre for Research and Development announced the results of the fourth contest in the LEADER Program. The Director of the Centre, Professor Krzysztof Jan Kurzydłowski, based on the ranking list drawn up by the two-stage recruitment procedure, decided to finance 41 projects with a total value of 43 692 853 PLN.
One of the highly-rated projects is the project of Witold Kazimierz, PhD, (Faculty of Navigation), entitled ‘Mobile inland shipping’, which gave him the 20th place among the 41 winners of the program.
The main objective of the project is the development of inland shipping mobile technology. As the main scientific goal he has set the development of methods for spatial data processing for the needs of mobile cartographic presentation and efficient navigation on inland waterways. The practical aim, in turn, is to develop MOBINAV system to be the development of the concept of car navigation on inland area. The raised research hypothesis of the project is the statement that it is possible to meet the requirements of users in relation to recreational navigation devices using commercially available mobile technology and mobile mapping methodology.
The proposed solution is an innovative product, which does not have direct equivalents on the market today. The closest solution is ECDIS Inland systems currently used on merchant ships. On the market there is a gap in the software between the fully professional ECDIS software on the one hand, and the general sites like Google maps on the other. There is no middle way, dedicated to inland waterway that gets out of rigid framework of Inland ECDIS standardization. Thus, MOBINAV fits precisely in this gap, filling it as an optimal solution for all types of non-commercial users, that is, sailors, fishermen and tourists.
