The State Maritime School was located in the building in Wały Chrobrego Street in the years 1963-72. A stone commemorating this fact was officially unveiled on Saturday morning, right before the Inauguration Ceremony of the academic year at the Maritime University of Szczecin.

- We must remember where our roots are - said Master Mariner Włodzimierz Grycner, the head of the organizational committee for commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the State Maritime School. Half a century ago, in 1966, the first graduates left the school.

The ceremony was held with participation of the invited guests - Vice Minister Paweł Brzezicki, Szczecin City Mayor Piotr Krzystek, authorities of the Maritime University of Szczecin. The meeting was conducted by Master Mariner Józef Gawłowicz.

The stone was unveiled by Master Mariners Włodzimierz Grycner and Aleksander Walczak (former Rector of the Higher Maritime School in Szczecin) and the Rector of MUS Włodzimierz Ślączka, Vice Minister of Maritime Economy and Inland Navigation Paweł Brzezicki and Szczecin City Mayor Piotr Krzystek. The Vice Minister and the City Mayor were also asked to give speeches.

The ceremony was also attended by first-year graduates of the State Maritime School. On the occasion of the 50th anniversary, they later attended an informal get-together to reminisce about their youth.
