On 21.05.2010, at the Maritime University of Szczecin, the State Maritime Conference, organized by the Ministry of Infrastructure in cooperation with the Maritime University of Szczecin, was held.

The leading topic of the conference was Polish and EU maritime policy, which according to its assumptions, is to help the union countries in their effective competition at sea with the rest of the world, as well as, to enhance the quality of marine services, promotion of marine professions, maritime safety and environmental protection.

Vice -Minister of Infrastructure, Undersecretary of State Anna Wypych Namiotko, a member of the Interdepartmental Group for the Republic of Poland maritime policy, pointed out the need for the maritime policy development until 2020. So far, there have been set 9 priority objectives; the first of them „development of maritime education, science and research” followed by “the development of ports and facilitating maritime transport, enhancement of energetic safety, sea and ocean balanced exploration, improvement of sea natural environment, maritime safety and management 


At the conference, Prof. Stanisław Gucma, Master Mariner, the Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin was awarded with a gold medal for his long service, and a badge of „the merited sea worker”. Among the guests attending the conference were Marcin Zydorowicz, the Voivode of West Pomeranian Province, Wojciech Drożdż, Vice
Marshall, Piotr Krzystek, the President of the City of Szczecin, as well as the representatives of maritime companies.
