An hour and 23 seconds needed a winning team to beat the field phase of the second edition of the City Games ‘Decode the funds’. At the start of the finals were as many as 13 teams, in a total number of 39 players.
On October 19 2013, took place the city stage of the second edition of the City Games ‘Decode the funds’ organized by the Central European Funds Information Point in Szczecin. Before the streets of Szczecin at the October noon became a game board, the participants had faced the first online stage ( October 14-18 ), where the task was to solve the quiz revealing the secrets of EU funds; during the stage 15 teams qualified for the urban stage .
On the day of the field stage 13 teams - 39 contestants set off in the area with appropriate start-up briefcases and backpacks labelled with the game logo. The second phase of the City Games began with a prologue, which was guided by Justyna Machnik - a tour guide and coordinator of the ‘Szczecin Tenement’. The participants had the opportunity to hear about the new tourist route ‘Unusual Szczecin inhabitants and their houses’ concerning thirteen historic buildings in the city centre of Szczecin and their extraordinary pre - and post-war tenants. The lecture became a pretext for the first task - verification of the knowledge imparted. Then the teams equipped with various hints set off into the city seeking consecutive points of the game. These included facilities and premises financed with European funds such as, inter alia, Ship Simulator at the Centre of Marine Traffic Engineering (Maritime University of Szczecin), the Palace of the Globe (Academy of Arts) Art transformer station and the locations connected with EU information points, such as Europe Direct .
During the game, its contestants had to, among others, play the role of a captain of the vessel, find adequate financial resources and demonstrate the knowledge concerning the subsidized facilities.
The best team beat the tour in 1h23s. The record time belonged to a team composed of Marta Miklej - Adamowicz , Grzegorz Adamowicz who in the overall classification took the third place with 33 points, whereas Luiza Kwadras, Anna Przytulska and Marta Śniadała who defeated the route within 1h33 min took the second place. Besides the time of finishing the city race, the score also accounted for the correct solution of tasks and the time of their realization. The point difference between winning positions was minimal; the winning team composed of Sylwia Prociak , Izabela Wojtczak - Sikorska , Joanna Pondo - Suchy, took the top place on the podium with just one point difference (35).
Additional task the teams had to complete, in the struggle for distinction, was the preparation of the blog entry ‘Have a look at how the European Funds work’ on any topic, but taking into account the European Funds. Blogging and ingenuity of our players had no boundaries. The jury awarded the representatives of the Szczecin Aloud blog, a team that in a very interesting way prepared the text of Szczecin city ring road with their own hand- made images.
This award was jointly earned by Krzysztof Mieczkowski , Grzegorz Lempicki and Mateusz Ofiarski . The awards, in the form of vouchers for tourist equipment for the top teams were handed in at the start and finish, which is the main European Funds Information Point at Kusnierska Street 12b in Szczecin .
The organization of the Games would not be possible without the involvement of institutions and individuals working in them. Thanks to the cooperation the Game has become a unique and attractive in its character and led the participants to the places they do not have a chance to see on the daily basis.
Thanks for your participation and CONGRATULATIONS
