In Swinoujscie, on May 17 this year, was opened a breakwater, which will overshadow the new port entered by ships carrying liquefied natural gas.
At the invitation of the Maritime Office in Szczecin – the executor of the enterprise, the ceremony was attended by the Rector of the Maritime University, Professor Stanislaw Gucma, Master Mariner.
The breakwater is a part of a larger project - the construction of the LNG terminal in Swinoujscie. Staff of the maritime University of Szczecin participated in the study design of the LNG terminal, and currently they work in consulting detailed design and construction.
Within a long-term program called ‘Building a breakwater for the external port in Swinoujscie’ was constructed a breakwater with a length of nearly 3 km, the western spur with a length of 255 m, a turntable for ships and a new 14.5 m deep track for vessels approaching the external port.
This is one of the largest offshore investments in our country, the cost of a billion dollars.
The ceremony was attended by the Treasury Minister, Wlodzimierz Karpinski, the Minister of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy, Slawomir Nowak and Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy, Anna Wypych-Namiotko.
The first gas carriers shall come to the LNG terminal in Swinoujscie next year. Ultimately, each year 5 billion cubic meters of gas will be received.
Świnoujście breakwater is the longest of its kind in Europe.
