As a part of celebrating the Day of our University, on 11.05.2015, the Department of Physical Education and Sport and the Academic Sports Association prepared recreation and sport competitions for students and employees which made the open-air picnic more attractive. Everyone could take part in five competitions that required not only sports skills but also cleverness, patience and luck.
Traditionally, the inter-faculty multi-event Maritime University Rector’s Cup was held at the swimming pool. This year, students competed in six events. First, as a warm-up, there was the 4x50m freestyle relay. Next, there were races in atypical categories (a bit of fun) that required versatile skills from students: race in immersion suits, towing breaststroke, race in a nutshell, sitting race and pushing 20 kg weight along the swimming pool’s bottom.
After an hour of struggle and fierce rivalry as well as support from spectators gathered on the swimming pool balcony, the winner was the Faculty of Navigation, before the Faculty of Marine Engineering and the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering. The prizes for students were presented by University officials (visible in the photos) who had showed similar enthusiasm in supporting their students throughout all the competitions.
See you next year!
