One of the most significant events for us was the visit of the Secretary General of IMO, Mr Kitack Lim at our university. The guest, accompanied by the host of the World Maritime Days, Minister Marek Gróbarczyk, was received by the authorities of the Maritime University of Szczecin in the Marine Traffic Engineering Centre and the European LNG Training Centre. The secretary was impressed by the training and research facilities of the university and asked many questions, e.g. concerning the educational process as well as the career path of graduates.

For the subsequent two days, the conference guests discussed the current challenges of modern navigation - cybersecurity, intelligent systems, future of the labour market in the maritime sector. One of the presenters in the panel concerning the labour market was Piotr Wołejsza, PhD. Eng., Master Mariner of the Maritime University of Szczecin.

The Maritime University of Szczecin was also present in the conference lobby, where the guests were presented with NAVDEC - the Navigation Decision Support System, the invention of scientists from the Maritime University, which is used to minimize the risk of sea collisions.

The World Maritime Days in Szczecin were an opportunity for companies and institutions from the city and the region as well as whole Poland to appear on the international arena. For the Maritime University of Szczecin, this was an opportunity to emphasise and strengthen its presence in the sector as well as present the broad possibilities provided for students, scientists and the economic surrounding - both locally and globally.

The World Maritime Days are not only discussions on the highest level, but also a possibility for guests and the inhabitants of Szczecin to get acquainted with the Maritime University. On the first day of the conference, the guests will be able to take part in a concert of the Choir of the Maritime University of Szczecin with the singer John James. The ensemble proposed its flagship repertoire - maritime theme songs and, together with the soul singer, the choir also sang “O, Happy Day” and “Georgia”. John James encouraged the audience to dance with his positive energy and funky arrangements.

For three days, the participants of the accompanying event - the maritime festival - could meet us in the Maritime Educational Centre located in a spherical tent in Łasztownia. We presented all the interested people with e.g. a bolide constructed by our students and scientists from the Faculty of Marine Engineering, hydrographic equipment, a life raft, a vessel engine model, the ECDIS system simulator, 3D printing. There were also lots of volunteers willing to try their best on rowing machines.

Except for a virtual tour of a ship, which was possible in the Maritime Educational Centre, we also proposed a tour of Nawigator XXI - the ship was moored at Bulgarian Quay in the neighbourhood of Dar Młodzieży during the whole event. The vessel was visited by hundreds of the event participants.
