The ceremony of awarding grants to scientists in the 2nd call for proposals in the programme "Innovation Incubator+" was held on 10th May in the Senate Hall of the Maritime University of Szczecin.
The Consortium includes the Technology Transfer Centre of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin (the consortium leader) and Centrum Innowacji Akademii Morskiej w Szczecinie Sp. z o.o. (the Innovation Centre of the Maritime University of Szczecin). The conclusions from the second competition were evaluated by the Investment Council of MareMed project composed of:
- prof. Jerzy Samochowiec, MD. PhD. – Vice Rector for Science of PMU,
- Artur Bejger, PhD Eng., associate professor at MUS, Vice Rector for Science of MUS
- Paweł Bochniarz – MIT Enterprise Forum Poland
- Marek Matulewicz – KOMA NORD sp. z o.o.,
- Roman Haberek – Autocomp Management sp. z o.o.
The grants were awarded to five research teams:
- “A prototype of an impression tray for unilateral tooth absence in the mandible” - under the supervision of Małgorzata Tomasik, MD. PhD.
- “An innovative cord blood collection kit for premature infants” - under the supervision of prof. Bogusław Machaliński, MD. PhD.
- “Development of a technology for dry baths in CO2 and O3 gas mixture” - under the supervision of Anna Lubkowska, DSc.
- “Innovative composite materials with a halloysite filler for the production of reinforced dentures” - under the supervision of Ewa Sobolewska, MD, PhD. Professor of PMU.
- “The Autonomous Measurement System “Total Free Station” (AMS-TFS)” - under the supervision of Grzegorz Stępień, PhD. Eng.
The distinguishing feature of the MareMed project is combining seemingly distant areas within the ideas the positive influence of which is to be felt soon.
The budget of MareMed is almost PLN 2.5 million. The ideas awarded in the competition may count on 2-year support for scientific research and developmental work, especially within the scope of commercialisation of the results. The funds come from the “Innovation Incubator+” programme implemented by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education as a part of the Smart Growth Operational Programme (Action 4.4 Increasing of the HR potential of the R&D Sector).
The research teams selected by the Investment Council will receive a possibility to carry out implementation work, including additional laboratory tests or adjustment of the technology to the needs of an entity interested in its purchase as well as e.g. support within the scope of promotion of the technological offer, participation in exhibitions and invention fairs; preparation of the analyses of a research/implementation project, co-financing of intellectual property protection and preparation of patent documentation.
The MareMed project has already invested in thirteen solutions in medical and maritime sectors. The amount of an individual grant is up to PLN 100 000. The whole investment process will be supervised by the Investment Committee consisting mainly of industry and investment fund representatives. In addition, funds have been provided for promotional activities, travelling to international trade fair events, workshops and access to data bases.
2nd Competition MareMed - rewarded projects:
Anna Lubkowska, MD, PhD. Professor at PMU received co-financing for development of the technology of dry baths in CO2 and O3 gas mixture. Baths with the use of therapeutic gases constitute an element of a complex, therapeutic stimulation influence in health resort treatment.
Team members:
- Anna Lubkowska, MD. PhD., Professor at PMU
- Robert Klejdysz, MSc.
In the next project, the team supervised by prof. Bogusław Machaliński, MD. PhD., Rector of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin, will develop a cord blood collection kit for premature infants. Stem cells (SC) are extremely promising in the perspective of their use for regeneration of damaged tissues and, based on a significant amount of data from in vitro and in vivo tests, it is considered that they are capable of self-regeneration, producing a range of lines of mature cells.
Team members:
- prof. Bogusław Machaliński, MD. PhD.
- Maciej Kotowski, MD. PhD.
- Przemysław Ustianowski, MD. PhD.
- Miłosz Kawa, MD. PhD.
- Michał Pokwicki, MSc
Co-financing was also granted to Ewa Sobolewska, MD. PhD. Professor of PMU, whose team is composed of researchers from the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin and the Maritime University of Szczecin. The project involves innovative composite materials for producing reinforced dentures with the use of halloysite fillers.
Team members:
- Ewa Sobolewska, MD. PhD. Professor at PMU
- Agnieszka Lapis, DMD.
- Katarzyna Gawdzińska, PhD Eng, associate professor at MUS
- Katarzyna Bryll, PhD Eng
Another joint project of two universities - PMU and MUS is the project supervised by Małgorzata Tomasik, MD. PhD. The objective is creation of a prototype of an impression tray for unilateral tooth absence in the mandible. The project is completely innovative because there are no trays dedicated to patients with asymmetrical tooth absence.
Team members:
- Małgorzata Tomasik, MD. PhD.
- Katarzyna Gawdzińska, PhD Eng, associate professor at MUS
- Katarzyna Bryll, PhD Eng.
- Waldemar Kostrzewa, PhD Eng.
- Marcin A. Królikowski, PhD Eng.
Autonomous Measurement System “Total Free Station” is a scientific project of the Maritime University of Szczecin, which was granted financing. The project was the created by the team under the supervision of Grzegorz Stępień, PhD. Eng. from the Maritime University of Szczecin.
The objective of the project is integration of an electronic total station - in other words: a ground surveying instrument - with a drone. The whole system will be composed in a manner enabling control of the flying unit from the ground through a suspended prism of 360 degrees as well as its constant tracking with a robotic total station. Thanks to this, there will be no need for a transmitter and GPS communication, whereas the obtained effect will be super-precise control of the unit. This innovative solution, which will simplify drone control and, what is more, make it much more precise, will enable the use of drones for measurement works demanding high precision. Summing up - the project will enable transferring of the precision of ground-based measurements into the air space and, as a result, conducting measurements multi-dimensionally.
