The Maritime University in Szczecin becomes more open to cooperation with the economic environment.

On 30th March 2015, the university represented by the Rector, Prof. DSc. PhD. Eng. Master Mariner Stanisław Gucma, and Centrum Innowacji Akademii Morskiej w Szczecinie Sp. z o.o. (The Innovation Centre of the Maritime University in Szczecin), represented by the President of the Management Board Konrad Frontczak, signed an agreement on operation of the Risk Analysis Laboratory.

The agreement concerns the choice of an entity that will perform work involving commercial use of the Scientific and Research Maritime Risk Analysis Centre (in other words the RY Laboratory) as well as conducting of research work commissioned by external entities on commercial principles in the following areas:

  • risk analysis of the operation of floating vessels and off-shore constructions as well as their impact on the natural environment resulting from effects of their breakdowns,
  • measuring, spatial delimitation of safe manoeuvring and operation areas of off-shore constructions within the scope of their impact on any other human activity on water bodies and port basins,
  • performing of any commissioned services of related nature on commercial principles.

This is the second laboratory that the Maritime University is transferring into the management of its special purpose entity.

A solution in which an external entity operates and manages the research infrastructure of a scientific unit is still a new idea in Poland.
Nevertheless, it has many advantages including e.g. faster and more efficient services for ordering parties as well as the possibility of applying competitive market rates.

The Centre is the only facility in Poland equipped with such complex analytic tools that enable conducting of research and analyses within the scope of marine transport.

It consists of seven work stations:

  1. The Nastran System Station,
  2. The Solid works System Station,
  3. The DNV Phast System Station,
  4. The IWRAP MK System Station,
  5. The GoldSim System Station,
  6. The ESRI System Station,
  7. The AIS System Station

as well as specialist analytic software (Statistica, ITEM).

Example LRY services:

  • Research on ship traffic lanes in navigation routes, approaching channels and port channels.
  • Research on ship traffic streams in navigation routes, approaching channels and port channels within the scope of technical and operating parameters.
  • Research on the streams of goods transport, including especially dangerous goods transport in navigation routes, approaching channels and port channels.
  • Research on navigation routes within the scope of their adjustment to ship traffic streams.
  • Research on potential effects of a collision of vessels or a vessel with a hydro-technical structure, including an off-shore constructions and underwater pipelines.
  • Research on the potential polluted area of an ecosystem as a result of vessel operation.
  • Conducting simulations of the scope of electrical power ship damages (FME Method).
  • Determination with a simulation method of the scope of technical ship damage in the effect of a collision.
  • Determination with a simulation method of the scope of technical damage of a hydro-technical structure, including off-shore constructions and underwater pipelines.
  • Optimisation of port hydro-technical devices.
  • Determination of the human error distribution in various occupational classes.
  • Planning of rescue operations and elimination of breakdown effects.

Selection of the Operator was carried out in the public procurement procedure pursuant to article 701 of the Civil Code.
