The robot (a mechanical unit supplied with RH control panel) was donated to the Maritime University by ASTOR Company Ltd. in October 2005. The robot is a second hand device; for 10 years it was used for welding car bodies of the Opel production line in Gliwice. In the past years there were carried out works concerning fixing the robot, constructing pneumatic steering devices for its handling (grasping device), overhauling, maintenance of the mechanical part and steering unit and the electrical control panel RH, as well as modernizing electric power supply to the laboratory.

It is a large-dimension device; its arm working range is approx. 3 m, maximum height of conducted operations approx 3 m, weight approx. 1600 kg. Representatives of the authorities of the Maritime University of Szczecin including the Rector, Vice Rectors, the Dean and the Directors of the Institutes of the Faculty of Marine Engineering, academic teachers and others, attended the inauguration of its activating.
