MARINE POWER project, which was submitted in October 2012 under the measure 4.3 by the Faculty of Marine Engineering with the support of Marine Technology Transfer Center, has received funding from the National Centre for Research and Development in the amount of 1.8 million PLN. These funds will be used to improve the quality of courses in mechatronics.
This project is the fourth one to be implemented at the Faculty of Marine Engineering, which won funds under Priority IV Human Capital Operational Program ‘Higher Education and Science’. Their total value has already exceeded 12 million PLN. With these funds, the quality of education at the Faculty of Marine Engineering is constantly being raised. The POWER MARINE project provides for the implementation of the four substantive tasks aimed at raising the quality of education, especially in the mechatronics.
The first two tasks are essentially training. The first is to improve the teaching skills of 24 members of FME teaching staff. They will be covered by training in the creation of multimedia presentations, techniques of conducting group classes and vocal emission. The value of this training will be 32 thousand PLN and it will be carried out in the period from January to May 2014. Within the second task 20 teachers will participate in specialized courses conducted in England, Denmark, Sweden and the USA. The courses will cover the following areas: computer science, electronics, energy and engineering. The value of this task will be 370 thousand PLN and the training will be carried out from March 2014 to September 2015.
The next task will be to implement a month or two-month internships for 15 staff members of the Faculty of Marine Engineering in recognized research centers abroad, including the University of Edinburgh (Scotland), University of Waterloo (Canada), Central Specialized Laboratory Gazprom (Russia) and the Centre for Metallurgical Research AZTERLAN (Spain). In addition to the above centers, participants will be able to find other placements according to their needs. Trainees will receive reimbursement of transport, accommodation and subsistence. In addition, the project provides funding for the centers hosting interns. In total, the entire event was allocated more than 510 thousand PLN. The first internship will begin in May 2014.
The last task is to implement an e-learning course in Mechatronics. According to the project schedule, it should take place in June 2015. It shall cost over 550 thousand PLN and will include the development of teaching materials in the form of e-learning, buying webcams and multi-media boards with projectors and purchase of special software for the platform. As a result, at the course of mechatronics 16 subjects will be taught via e-learning. All content of the platform will be translated into English, so that the FME will be even more open to foreign students.
Implementation of the project will start on 1 October 2013.
