On the last weekend of August (24-25.08) were held the last preliminaries for the Cup of Poland, which went on to the hands of our crew ! Regatta were played in the marina ' Pod Omega ' in Iława, a very large and beautiful body of water , but by its shape and the surrounding tall trees ungrateful to racing.
We arrived at the resort on Friday in the early hours, which allowed us to safely prepare and set sail for a weekend of racing. In the harbor there were also crews classified in the Polish Cup on further positions: 2 - Andrzej Rygielski (on Angela), 3 - Piotr Malicki (on Proton ) , 8 - Marian Zielinski ( on Maribo ) and several very strong local crews.
On Saturday at 9.30 started regatta - the hosts welcomed the participants of the competition, that is 69 boats divided into classes: Omega , Z500 , Sigma 600 , DZ , T1 , T2 , T3 . About 11:00 the first several kilometers long race from Iława took place. A small delay in the start brought great benefits - going quietly with undisturbed wind put us in the lead for the next kilometer only enlarging the advantage, which at the finish line was under six minutes
We also won the start for the next race, but made a tactical error by choosing the right route. Most of our competitors followed us except of ’ Angela ‘, which chose the left side - when we ’ parked ’ due to lack of wind , Andrew Rygielski won the advantage of 200 m at the upper edge . We tried to make up for losses , holding the remaining stake behind the boat, and we were able to make up the 150 m distance, but lacked a bit to take the lead, finishing the race on the second position.
In race nr 3 we won also consistently selecting the right. This time, we get 100 m on the upper edge over other buoy, in the courses with the wind we were able to defend the position, and even gain larger advantage, which gave us a 200 m lead at the finish line and finally let us win the race. At the end of the race day we returned to Iława for a meal and the evening concert planned by the organizers. The table showed our three points advantage over the second crew and four points over the third one.
Sunday greeted us with very variable weather conditions - 1-3 degrees Beaufort wind shook the 40 degrees. The Ground Jury provided two long races from Iława to Szalkowo and back. We managed to win the start and get a 50 meter lead. In the middle of the route knowledge of the waters by the local crew ’ Maribo ’ benefited and unfortunately we gave them the lead, not being able to make up for losses we finished the race in second place, what put us in a sticky situation - to win the race we had to win the next race or yacht ’ Maribo ’ should finish in the second position. We won the start of the race No. 5 choosing the right route - we had a 100 m lead at the top mark, at the bottom mark it rose to 200 m , the remaining several kilometers tack. We managed to defend the position until 500 meters before the finish line when we grabbed ’ hole ’ in the wind, and four crews overtook us; we fell to fifth place! A leading yacht ’ Maribo ’ fell to second place overall. Fortunately for us, we were able to dig out of the hole, the last 20 meters to finish ahead of two yachts and finally finish the race in third position. Yacht ’ Maribo ’ on the finish line lost to ’ Angela’ by the width of the proverbial hair and took the second place, which gave us the first place and let us win the Polish Cup qualifiers, ‘Iława Sailing Cup’
Thus, we summed up our very good win in the class T1 of POLISH CUP 2013, including our individual results- 1 place - Cup of Koronowski Lagoon
