On 26th June, the choir of the Maritime University of Szczecin begins its journey overseas to represent the university, the region and Poland on the International Choral Kathaumixw festival held between 2nd and 8th July in Powell River in Canada. The ensemble is the only one from Poland and one of two representatives of Europe (except for Slovakia) during the festival!
The festival week will be preceded by a concert tour of our choir. The 40-person ensemble conducted by Sywia Fabiańczyk-Makuch, DSc., is to visit towns in the Canadian region of British Columbia, giving concerts, almost daily, for international audience, presenting both Polish and foreign repertoire. During the concert tour, the ensemble will sing e.g.:
- on 27th June - in the Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Port Coquitlam,
- on 28th June - in Phoenix Auditiorium in The Haven on Gabriola Island,
- on 29th June - in Fanny Bay on Vancouver Island
The choir is to begin its participation in the Kathaumixw with a joint performance together with other choirs during the festival opening gala. - During the week spent in Powell River, the ensemble will present itself in three competition categories and in accompanying concerts organised all the time during the festival - says the conductor, Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch. Kathaumixw will be finished with a grand concert, where music pieces will be performed by a choir consisting of several hundred people composed of all festival ensembles.
The participants of the festival will include choirs from all over the world, e.g. from the United States, Uganda, Australia, Cuba, Taiwan, Hong-Kong and Canada.
