The Marshal of the West Pomerania Province, Olgierd Geblewicz and the MUS Rector Wojciech Ślączka signed an agreement on co-financing of the construction of the Centre for Operation of Floating Objects (COFO) on 2nd October.
- I am glad that, on the occasion of the commencing academic year, we are signing an agreement on such a huge investment - began Marshal Olgierd Geblewicz.
The meeting was also attended by the MUS Chancellor, Andrzej Durajczyk.
COFO will be a modern centre located on Dębogórska Street in Szczecin, where specialist laboratory stations will be created, combining various research areas in the field of maritime economy, i.e. marine traffic engineering, positioning systems, ship manoeuvring or satellite navigation. The Centre will create large-scale reduction ship models or, simply saying, miniature ships, which will enable observations as regards later functioning of the ships in practice.
It will also be a necessary scientific base enabling us to conduct research on new technologies - e.g. automatic ships or the use of virtual reality systems in navigation. - Moreover, COFO will also be a valuable training centre with direct access to water - emphasised Rector Wojciech Ślączka.
These issues are within the area of interest of e.g. the scientific staff of the Department of Naval Architecture and Ship Construction of MUS. The numerous possibilities created by COFO will include practical validation of the solutions developed by our scientists and students - especially those in the field of Naval Architecture.

Co-financing – 74.84%
Co-financing from the EU – PLN 18 001 652.04
Construction of the centre is a significant project both for the university, as a scientific and research centre, and for the development of the maritime economy in Szczecin and the region.
- It’s good news for West Pomerania. We have managed to contract one of the key projects as regards the West Pomerania Research Infrastructure List. I am convinced that the Centre for Operation of Floating Objects will strengthen the research infrastructure of West Pomeranian universities - said Marshal Olgierd Geblewicz, adding that the Maritime University of Szczecin is one of the most verified beneficiaries of EU funds.
