The conference of the rectors of Baltic States took place between 24th and 26th January at Abo Akademi University in Turku, Finland.
The conference was held as a part of the Baltic University Programme Network, associating universities from the Baltic Sea region already since 1991. The Maritime University of Szczecin was represented during the conference by Agnieszka Deja, PhD. Eng., Vice Rector for Teaching. The subject of the conference in Turku was strengthening and supporting the efforts towards the internationalisation of universities and improvement of students and scientists’ mobility.
The programme, initiated and coordinated by Swedish Uppsala University, is an international academic network associating over 200 members and one of the largest bodies of this type in the world. The activities of the BUP include research and educational programmes as well as implementation projects. The subject matter of joint projects includes e.g. research concerning environmental protection, sustainable development and regional studies. Over the year, thousands of lecturers, scientists and students have taken advantage of trainings, workshops, developmental programmes and many others opportunities. About 9 thousand students participate in the courses organised for them at partner universities as a part of the BUP programme each year.
