Last week from 30.06 - 01.07.2011, at the Maritime University of Szczecin, ul. Szczerbcowa 4, the fifth edition of the International Scientific Conference "Inland Shipping 2011" was held.

Thursday morning at 10:00 there was a solemn opening of the Conference honored by the presence of such celebrities as Marshal of the West Pomeranian Province Olgierd Geblewicz, Deputy Mayor of Szczecin, Krzysztof Soska, Director of the Maritime Security Department at the Ministry of Infrastructure Magdalena Jabłonowska, Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin, Prof. Stanislaw Gucma, Master Mariner, as well as many celebrities representing both the world of science, public administration, and the private sector entrepreneurs interested in different aspects of the conference issues, or inland waterways. The first day of the Conference was crowned with a dinner at the Castle Restaurant in the Castle of Pomeranian Dukes.

The second day of the Conference was attended by the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure, Anna Wypych-Namiotko, who after the last session of the Conference to mark the 50th anniversary of the Inland Waterway Administration in Poland, handed in medals for long service to merited employees and departmental badges of honor awarded by the President. Among the decorated was Captain Krzysztof Woś, PhD, the Director of the Office for Inland Navigation in Szczecin, who is also the Head of the Department of Inland Navigation and Water Management at the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering, Maritime University of Szczecin.

After the award ceremony of state awards, participants took part in a four-hour cruise on a ship Dziewanna.
During both days of the Conference a total of 27 papers were presented on, among others, legal aspects, economic conditions, modern information systems, new technologies, transport loads, the problems faced by managing inland waterways or inland waterway developments in Poland.
