On 29-30 June, on the waters of Lake Powidzkie in Marina of the Sailing Club Horn, Kosewo (near Słupca) the 5th elimination of the Polish Yachting Cup was held. This was the third event for our team composed of Bartosz Piotrowski and Karol Krzyzanowski, which took the top place on the podium.

Powidzkie Lake is one of the cleanest waters, on which we are pleased to race - it is a quiet zone (you may not use internal combustion engines), and therefore the water is incredibly clear.

The organizers planned six regatta races for classes T1, T2, T3, standard Omega, Omega Sports, Sigma 600, open board units up to 6m and above 6m. According to the weather forecast it was possible to accomplish all of them. The Referee of the regatta on the lake had set two routes making boats with additional sails (spinnaker or gennaker) not interfere with other boats that did not have such a rig. Our itinerary was set after the so-called triangle (start-1, 2,3 ) and herring (2-3-finish, top-down).

On Saturday there were 4 races and apart from one race, where we made a big mistake at the start, with penalty for the first lap, which put us on the second place, in the second lap, we went ahead and we brought it to the end of the race. In all the other Saturday races we were in the lead from the start to the finishing line, racing against yachts of the upper classes.

On Sunday we planned to start in just one race. We encountered gusty wind of 3-4 Beaufort degrees, the favorable conditions for navigation. We managed to win the first race; then finished the regatta, winning all the races in which we participated. The organizer has provided a very efficient crew boat slipway with a crane and closed the race with medals, gifts and prize draws among the competing teams.

We will definitely return there next year!

Kosewo Regatta is the latest success of our team. However, we are also proud of our results in the fifteenth Long Distance Polish Yachting Championship Anwil Cup 2013 – Jerzy Fijalka Memorial - held in the Polish Yachting Cup in June 15-16 at the marina of the Zarzeczewo. After 4 qualifications our team took the first place! We started this time composed of Bartosz Piotrowski and Adam Piotrowski.

This championships event attracted 51 teams divided into different classes, T-1, T-2, T-3, Z500, Omega Micro. The Regatta, as the Polish Long Distance Championships, were held on long routes and the Saturday race on a very long distance.

On the first day the competition was played at a very variable wind conditions, both in terms of its direction and strength. Although the scoreboard did not reflect it, the competition required from us a lot of work and we were the leaders of a few races. Unfortunately the lack of consistency in our actions meant that on that day we finished all four races on the second position.

Sunday was expected to bring stronger weather conditions and wind direction stability, which, in fact, happened. We tried to eliminate the wrong from the previous day, which brought a good effect in the first run, which we won. In the second run, the course of the wind, we had a failure of the boom to keep headsail (jib) and we ‘parked’ for some 2-3 minutes before we were able to handle the problem and carry sail on the boat hook. At this time, we were pretty much left by two crews - ‘AndrzEla’, which was a speed demon on courses with the wind, and the crew edging Andrew, who led after the first day in the standings. In the course of the wind, we managed to make up one position and catch the leader, but unfortunately we ran out of air, to take the lead.

We know that we lack speed on the courses off the wind, which we are now working on. However, Sunday’s race showed that there is enormous potential in our courses to the wind, thanks to which, in the last two races, occupying the third position, we managed to take at the bottom buoy the first and 2nd place in the race.

We finished the Polish Championship on the second place, which is our success, because in the past we were number 5 and it was our highest position.

This time we celebrated our success at first scoring position in the Polish Cup!
