Saturday, September 30 marked the opening celebration of the 2023/2024 academic year. At 9:30 a.m., an annual meeting of graduates of Szczecin's maritime schools was held at the memorial stone of the State Maritime School in Szczecin. Later on, in a scenic setting at the foot of the Chrobry Embankment, the main ceremonies began, with the raising of the national flag, the national anthem and a speech by MUS Rector Wojciech Ślączka who addressed the students:
Maritime education in West Pomerania has a long, 76-year tradition behind it. As we move forward, we continue to be mindful of our history (...) Today, you are beginning a completely new chapter in your life, you are curious about what awaits you and what time will bring. By choosing the Maritime University of Szczecin you have made a good choice - you have chosen a university that enjoys a reputation at home and abroad. You also have a legendary student life ahead of you - I wish you to choose the best and most valuable from it. It will not always be easy, sometimes it will cost you a lot of hardship and sacrifices. While studying, do not forget, the essential rest and entertainment, of course. You are joining a great maritime family today. Welcome on board!
Next, as MUS tradition tells, the first-year students said the words of the oath.
This was followed by the presentation of awards and distinctions to the University staff and students. The PhD degrees were presented to those who completed their thesis and the oath of the new doctoral students took place. MUS Choir performed also a short concert. At the end of the event, members of the public (students' parents, residents of Szczecin) present at the event enjoyed a spectacular parade of Guard of Honour and uniformed and non-uniformed student units preceded by a superb military orchestra of the 8th Coastal Defence Flotilla from Świnoujście.

Commemorative ceremony "To those who did not return from the sea"
On Friday evening MUS and local authorities representatives along with the Szczecin maritime community gathered for the traditional commemorative ceremony at the Central Cemetery to honour "Those who did not return from the sea." The event, which takes place by the dedicated monument, has become a regular feature of the program of each academic year opening and highlights the unbreakable bond linking the University with seafarers.Photo Gallery - "To those who did not return from the sea" tribute
