The West Pomeranian Science Festival initiated by the Szczecin Scientific Association is an event addressed to young people attending schools and universities as well as adult inhabitants of the region, including students of the University of Third Age.
The festival is an opportunity to visit laboratories and broadly understood research facilities of higher education institutions - this is of great significance for secondary school graduates facing a choice of a university where they are going to study.
At the Maritime University of Szczecin, the participants of the festival were traditionally able to get acquainted with the equipment and the tasks performed by the research and training vessel Nawigator XXI. Moreover, they found out about the methods of transporting liquid cargoes and liquefied gas in the LNG Terminal Simulation Centre and the Vessel Loading Simulator. In the Marine Traffic Engineering Centre, students from Szczecin schools could feel like on a real bridge. They visited the latest simulator - the ARPA navigation system, opened last year. There, they could feel themselves what it is like to steer a ship during a storm. In the ship engine room laboratory, they had contact with the equipment of an engine room and could have a close look at how the engine works. In the Laboratory of Commodity Science and Quality Management, they found out what methods enable assessment of product quality - also as regards products we have contact with on a daily basis, like e.g. tea.
The Maritime University of Szczecin received participants of the Festival from 12 schools in Szczecin.
