The first meeting being a part of one of SARA project activities is being held in Szczecin. The project partner - the Italian company Top View is testing the innovative solution - a tethered drone on board of Nawigator XXI.
The aim of the first tests of SARA project is mainly the verification of the method of assigning drone stations as well as the measurement of potential electromagnetic compatibility problems related to the use of drones in marine environment. In other words - the electromagnetic field, the source of which is both the steel construction as well as the mechanical and navigational devices, is a very difficult environment for controlling of an unmanned aerial vehicle such as a drone. Interferences may effectively prevent the use of drones in marine environment. The innovative solution used by Top View - i.e. the tethered drone - connected to the deck by means of an unfolding cable, may prove to be a breakthrough. Such an object can move up to 100 meters away from a vessel and monitor the water surface at an appropriate height. Representatives of Top View are satisfied with the results of the tests on Nawigator XXI.
The aim of the SARA project - Search and Rescue Aid and Surveillance using High EGNSS Accuracy - is to design a specialist solution based on the existing prototype to be used in the activity of the Maritime Search and Rescue Service (SAR) as well as surveillance of maritime areas.
The need for such a solution is the result of requests for technological support in managing of the migration phenomenon, with special emphasis on the migration crisis on the Mediterranean Sea. The solution is supposed to aid the development of safety procedures as well as provide technological support for the ships for detecting people lost at sea.
