On 14th January, it's been 24 years since the greatest maritime disaster in post-war history of the Polish commercial fleet - the sinking of "Jan Heweliusz" ferry. On 13th January, the victims of the disaster were commemorated in the Central Cemetery in Szczecin.
Tribute was paid to the victims at the monument commemorating the disaster. The family and friends of the victims appeared at the Central Cemetery together with representatives of companies and institutions connected with the maritime industry. The Maritime University of Szczecin was represented by Andrzej Bąk, PhD, Eng., master mariner, professor of MUS, Vice Rector for Maritime Affairs.
The celebration was accompanied by the the guard of honour of the Maritime University of Szczecin. Flowers were laid at the monument after a solemn roll call.
