Challenging times

He was first elected to this office in 2016, and since then, he has implemented and started many projects that have enabled the university to develop. Recent years have not been easy - education reform, the COVID-19 pandemic or the war across the eastern border - these are just some of the socio-political events that have affected the university's work.

Despite these dynamically changing circumstances, I have tried to consistently implement all plans and objectives for the benefit of the university, and I am very pleased that our academic community has appreciated my attitude and given me a credit of trust - the Rector admits.  

Wojciech Ślączka graduated from the Navigation Faculty of the Maritime University of Szczecin, where he started his research career after graduation, combining it with professional work at sea. In the following years, he held several positions, including Vice Chancellor for Maritime Affairs and Director of the Institute of Maritime Navigation, at the same time heading the Scientific and Research Centre for Risk Analysis, which he created, and after the university was reorganized, he took over the Department of Rescue and Risk Management.
His main areas of interest include ship traffic simulation modelling based on actual surveys and risk modelling in maritime transport. His publications concern methods of basin dimensioning based on risk theory, and methods of calculating the consequences of accidents occurring in maritime transport.
