We are glad that you have chosen our university - said the Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin, Prof. Stanislaw Gucma, Master Mariner, during the inauguration.

It is not only one of the best maritime universities in Europe, but also one of the most modern training centers for seafarers in the world. The Rector also stressed the importance of matriculation which makes the young people a part of our academic community.

Most freshmen made a solemn vow at the Faculty of Navigation followed by the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering and the Faculty of Marine Engineering.

Among the first year students there are more than 50 foreigners.

Although maritime studies at our University are concerned by many as typically male - for years there has been no shortage of women willing to take up the study - more than 300 female students have just commenced their first year.

Among the invited guests at the inauguration were: representatives of government, region, city and other universities of the province. A special guest was the new Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy - Mrs. Dorota Pyć, who, according to the tradition, received a report from the commander of the ceremony and reviewed the student subunits

It is the Minister who handed in an individual award of the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy to the Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin, Professor Stanislaw Gucma, Master Marine, for his lifetime achievements

During the ceremony at Waly Chrobrego the employees of the Maritime University of Szczecin were conferred PhD promotions, as well as awarded with state and departmental awards – Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta,, Silver Cross of Merit and the Medal of the National Education Commission. Faculty members have been awarded the gold, silver and bronze medals for Long Service and badges Merited Worker of the Sea.
