It is with deep regret for the Maritime University of Szczecin to inform that on 20 June 2013 died a retired teacher of our University, Professor Jerzy Listewnik. For many years of his extensive work he passed his academic and professional experience on to many generations of engineer officers during their study at the Maritime University of Szczecin.

Jerzy Listewnik was born on March 11, 1933. Most of his adult life was related to the Maritime University of Szczecin, where he started his work in 1967, holding the position of assistant lecturer and associate professor. Eighteen years did he spend at sea gaining qualifications, culminated in the degree of Chief Engineer.

He initiated the implementation of marine power plant simulators for the training process. Thanks to his efforts, the Faculty of Marine Engineering, Maritime University of Szczecin, is equipped with one of the most up-to-date Konsberg simulators. For 12 years he was Director of Marine Officers’ Training Centre, contributing to its development. As a representative of our university he worked at the World Maritime University in Malmö, teaching classes in such subjects as marine engines and marine power plants using modern simulators as teaching tools. He supervised hundreds of theses.

In his scientific activities related to environmental aspects of the operation of marine power plants he conducted a study on the oily water treatment methods. He was the author of numerous scientific articles, manuals and guides for exercises, which has developed curricula and lesson plans in the engine room simulators, making them an essential tool for teaching students and trainees. He was one of the most experienced and respected professionals in the field of marine power plants, both at home and abroad, working closely with the industry as an expert and consultant.

For his work he was repeatedly honored and rewarded with, among others, Gold Cross of Merit, Knight’s Cross, Order of Polish Rebirth and the Medal of the National Education Commission.

Professor Jerzy Listewnik, will remain in our memory as an open, friendly colleague and friend who brought a lot to the development of our university and maritime economy of the country.

The funeral of Professor Jerzy Listewnik, will be held on June 27, 2013 (Thursday) at 13.00, at the Central Cemetery in Szczecin. The Mass will be celebrated on the day of the funeral at 8.30 in the Holy Family church, at Krolowej Korony Polskiej.
