A former long-serving rector of our University, Professor Aleksander H. Walczak, Master Mariner, passed away on Tuesday, 16th of August.
We heard this message with deep sorrow, sadness and a sense of great loss. Professor was firmly committed to the development of first, the Maritime School of Higher Education and then the Maritime University of Szczecin. Apart from being the rector (4 terms - 1978-1984 and 1990-1996), he served as vice-rector and the dean of the Faculty of Navigation. He was also awarded the MUS honorary doctorate.
The Polish academic community has lost one of its most distinguished representatives - co-founder of maritime higher education institutions in Poland, an outstanding educator of many generations of officers of the navy, merchant and fishing fleet.
Professor will be sadly missed and we share the grief of his family and his loved ones.
The Professor's academic achievements and intellectual legacy are still with us, indicating the ways for future development, and giving us inspiration and encouragement to work for the benefit of our University.
Funeral services will be held on 19 August (Friday) at 2.30pm in the Main Chapel of the Central Cemetery in Szczecin.
