On December 7th, in London, the Polish candidacy was presented for the International Maritime Organization Council for the 2022-2023 term.

Poland seeks election to the Council in the C category – „States which have special interests in maritime transport or navigation and whose election to the Council will ensure the representation of all major geographic areas of the world”.

Presenting the Polish candidacy

A Polish delegation accompanied by the Chargé d'affaires of the Republic of Poland Embassy in London, Agnieszka Kowalska, took part in a meeting with Kitack Lim, Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization and the Ambassadors of IMO members states which will elect, in a short time, new Council members.
A delegation from the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure and maritime administration institutions demonstrated Poland's potential as an active and reliable partner to other members of IMO.
Representing the Maritime University of Szczecin, Janusz Uriasz, PhD Eng., MUS Professor and Vice-Rector for Innovation and Development was one of the members of the Polish delegation.

Polish long-term maritime tradition

For more than 60 years Poland has been actively involved in IMO activities, proving its commitment to ensure safe shipping, improve international maritime traffic and protect the marine environment.

In addition to a substantive presentation, the Ambassadors and IMO authorities were presented with a  Maritime University of Szczecin Choir show. During the ceremony, guests enjoyed a fancy video clip that promotes the "The Witcher" series based on books by Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski.
The comprehensive approach to Polish culture allowed us to complete the image of Poland among this international audience.

A couple of weeks ago, our University hosted a few Ambassadors from IMO member states (here in the photo below) during their visit to Szczecin, staged by the Polish Ministry of Infrastructure.
