Unia Europejska

Maritime University of Szczecin has just raised funds for a project covering the following:

  • scholarships for the so called ordered fields up to 1000Pln
  • individual equalizing classes of Mathematics and Physics
  • specialist classes of Auto Cad 2D and Programming
  • paid foreign trainings

The project, (4mln Pln out of its 5mln Pln total value, to be spent on scholarships) is co-financed by the EU.

ORDERED STUDY FIELDS-SCHOLARSHIPS

After the enrolment has been over (deadline: 30.20. 2010), ranking lists of students for each of the above mentioned fields shall be prepared. The selection of first year students to be granted their scholarships shall be based on their GCE/matura certificate average score. In the further course of education the process will be based on their learning progress and therefore, at the end of each academic year, new ranking lists of the best students, chosen out of the ones with all their exams passed and all signatures collected before the beginning of the next academic year will be prepared.

The scholarships will be paid for 9 months (the whole academic year) except the 4th year of study when students will get their scholarships for 6 months. The project will not refer to students already granted such scholarships at other universities or studying at other fields at the MU of Szczecin. The following number of people shall be granted 1000 Pln a month:

  1. Mechatronics -16 scholarships (for maximum 50% of students)
  2. Mechanics and Machine Construction - 42 scholarships (for maximum 40% of students).

Each year the ranking lists will probably differ, most significant differences are expected between the first and second year student ranking lists. However, such rotation of students granted scholarships is needed since it challenges for a positive competition concerning education. Detailed regulations of granting student scholarships shall be developed not later than by 20.10.2010.

INDIVIDUAL EQUALIZING CLASSES OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICS

During the first few weeks of study all the ordered study field students will be given a test in mathematics and physics to check their knowledge. 30 students with the lowest score will take up individual classes conducted by people with MSc or BSc degrees, graduates from mathematics and physics in 200-2010, or by the best 3rd, 4th or 5th year students of the University of Szczecin. Thus, the coaching staff shall consist of young people to ensure a better contact between teachers and students given the opportunity of choosing a coach, the most favorite one, out of the three possible ones.

The students will be offered 15 hours of mathematics and 15 hours of physics and the scope of the topics shall meet the students’ individual needs. The classes shall be carried out in commonly agreed location and completed with the coach’s written opinion on the student’s level of knowledge, achieved progress, his strong and weak points, which shall be handed over to the subject (mathematics or physics) lecturers to continue his work in a group. The student will be allowed to change his coach at any moment and at the end of the course he will fill in a questionnaire to evaluate his coach.

SPECIALIST CLASSES OF AUTOCAD 2D and PROGRAMMING

Training in AutoCAD 2D shall be conducted for 10 groups (containing 8 people each) of the 2nd year students and will cover 4 hours a day (4x45 minutes). The classes will be led in an authorized computer lab and coached by an authorized AutoCAD instructor. 10 groups of the 3rd year students (8 people each) will go through training in PLC (programmable logic controller) programming covering 4 hours of classes a day, in a new laboratory, purchased within the frame of the project. The course will be led by coaches well experienced in PLC programming.

Selection of trainees for the specialist courses will be based on the scholarship ranking list with the first 40 people (of the both ordered fields together) given the right to decide if they want to participate in the training. In case of somebody’s resignation a second list shall be prepared. All students willing to take part in the course will be obliged to apply to the project office. TRAININGS ABROAD

Within the frame of the project 10 students of the summer 2010 enrolment will be offered trainings abroad, each a month long, during which students will be working for 24 hours a week and receive a gross pay 2850 Pln a month. Before setting off a student shall sign a proper contract. The trainings will be organized in summer holidays of the 2nd and 3rd years of study by a coordinator with an excellent command of English.

The trainees will be selected according to the following criteria:

  • their grades
  • knowledge of the language of the training country or the command of English

People with the highest score (concerning all exams and signatures in all subjects from the beginning of the study) will be given the priority to choose the training, providing they possess the B2 level of a foreign language according to the certificates of LCCI, Cambridge, TELC, Goethe Institute etc, or internal tests.
