The Maritime University of Szczecin and the West Pomeranian Sailing Trail have signed a letter of intent as regards cooperation. The common ground is the specialisation of Yacht Port Operation offered by the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering, which is unique in Poland.

The letter of intent was signed on Tuesday, 9th May this year by the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering, Stanisław Iwan, PhD and the President of the Association of Yacht Ports and Marinas -the Local Tourist Organisation of the West Pomeranian Sailing Trail, Zbigniew Jagniątkowski. The event was also attended by Aleksandra Łapko, PhD, Eng., the supervisor of the new specialisation and 2nd-year students of Transport at the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering.

It’s worth adding that, already on 18th May, students will face selection of a specialisation within their fields of study and, therefore, Aleksandra Łapko provided them with the most significant information about Yacht Port Operation, emphasising that, if they decide to choose this specialisation, they may count on support of the university’s partners as regards apprenticeship or obtaining data required for writing of engineer’s dissertations.

As Dean Stanisław Iwan pointed out, this is the first such letter of intent, which is signed at the Faculty of Economics and Transport Engineering. - It’s an important moment and a proof that the specialisation is reflected in the economic reality - he said.

- In marinas of our region, there’s a need for technological solutions and specialists prepared for comprehensive management of modern yacht harbours - added President Zbigniew Jagniątkowski.

- Participation of the Association of Yacht Ports and Marinas as the patron of the specialisation is a guarantee of the practical dimension of teaching and the possibility to prepare students for the needs of the labour market - says Marta Barańska, the Rector’s Representative for Promotion. This is also the first step in cooperation with the economic and social surrounding within the very scope of specialist yacht port management.
