Wojciech Ślączka, PhD, Master Mariner, Professor of the Maritime University

The Rector Elect is a graduate of the Faculty of Navigation of the Maritime University of Szczecin where he also found his first employment after graduation. In the 2008-2012 term of office, he was the Vice-Rector for Maritime Affairs and afterwards the Director of the Institute of Marine Navigation and the Representative of the Rector for Maritime Affairs (until this day). In 2004, he was appointed a member of the officer qualification examination board by the Director of the Maritime Office in Szczecin and two years later - a member of the White-and-Red Flag Group by the Minister of Maritime Economy.

His basic area of scientific interest includes, inter alia, vessel traffic simulation modelling based on actual field research as well as risk modelling in maritime transport. He is the author of, among other things, methods of water body measuring based on risk theory, methods of calculating the effects of failures in maritime transport.

He has used the results of his research in numerous scientific and research projects concerning marine traffic engineering. A number of them were used for designing port basins, waterways and hydrotechnical constructions as well as while defining the technical and operational parameters of vessels. One of his main applicable achievements is the use of the risk theory in port basin modelling for optimization of a protective breakwater in the LNG terminal in Świnoujście.
