With the traditional tribute at the Central Cemetery and the opening ceremony on Chrobry Embankment we have launched a new academic year
Tribute "To those who did not return from the sea"
Authorities, staff and students of the Maritime University of Szczecin, along with several delegations from the region, participated in the traditional commemorative ceremony on 30 September at the "To those who did not return from the sea" memorial at the Central Cemetery in Szczecin. This event, which is a regular part of all celebrations and anniversaries at our University, stresses the MUS relationship with the sea and the community of seafarers.Main ceremony
On 1 October, Saturday, at 11.00 a.m., the main celebrations of the opening of the academic year started. The ceremony included an opening speech by the HM Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin, Wojciech Ślączka, who addressed new students:
The qualification you will gain from MUS will give you a reputation and recognition in Poland and abroad. You will quickly realise that your work and the experience you acquire during internships and apprenticeships will result in measurable benefits and career satisfaction. I wish you that this will come true for you very soon and have high hopes for you.
Speeches were also delivered by the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure Marek Gróbarczyk and West Pomerania Governor Zbigniew Bogucki and Honorary Consul of Ukraine in Szczecin Henryk Kołodziej.
The university's new flag was unveiled as MUS has changed its Polish name recently and the solemn oath was taken by more than a thousand candidates who were accepted as students at the Maritime University of Szczecin.
The awards and distinctions were also presented to MUS staff and students and for the first time in the new format, the doctoral degrees presentation and the oath of the new doctoral school students took place.
Student’s parade
As usual, it was the parade that drew the most applause and excitement from the families of newly admitted students and the audience. The military orchestra of the 8th Coastal Defence Flotilla from Świnoujście delivered, as usual, an excellent music performance. First-year MUS students, prepared for this event by a series of intense training sessions, marched along Chrobry Embankment, and then many of them took part in the "Walk to the university" event, going from Solidarność Square to Jasne Błonia, where representatives of all Szczecin's universities presented their educational opportunities.Opening of the new academic year ceremony - photo gallery
