Developed at the Faculty of Navigation and commercially put into operation by Sup4Nav, NAVDEC is a navigational decision support system aimed at solving collision situations at sea.
The system collects and analyses on an ongoing basis the data from navigation appliances and systems (such as GPS, AIS, ECDIS) installed on other ships and yachts. The data allow NAVDEC to analyse and evaluate current situation. It makes an allowance for International Regulations on Collision Prevention at Sea. In emergency situations, it provides fast and efficient recommendations of acceptable manoeuvres. The system solves collision situations with one chosen object (a ship) or with all objects in a given area.
At present, NAVDEC has been installed on 12 vessels of various types, with five ship owners: Unity Line, Polska Żegluga Morska, Euroafrica Star Reefers, Unibaltic. The system has been operating on, among others, the m/f Wolin ferry which has recently called in Szczecin - this being one of the first units where NAVDEC was applied.
Plans are already made for subsequent installations of the system.
