An agreement between Polska Żegluga Bałtycka and Sup4Nav - the operator of NAVDEC system - was signed on Thursday, 8th December 2016 in Kołobrzeg.

The invention intended to support the work of navigators has been tested on boards of m/f Wawel and m/f Mazovia since the beginning of 2016. Now, it’ll also be used on m/f Baltivia sailing from Świnoujście to Ystad. PŻB has made a decision to equip its ferries with NAVDEC system to increase safety of passengers and transported cargo.

Navdec is the first system in the world which supports navigation decisions in collision situations at sea. The system obtains and processes data on the current situation of the vessel and, in the case of any danger, prepares proposals of manoeuvres which enable secure passing of the encountered objects and presents them to the navigator. The technology and the prototype of the system were developed by the scientific team supervised by Zbigniew Pietrzykowski, PhD, Eng., Professor of MUS at the Faculty of Navigation of the Maritime University of Szczecin. Currently, the system is being implemented by Sup4Nav managed by Piotr Wołejsza, PhD, Eng., Master Mariner.

In the near future, the system may constitute one of basic elements of unmanned and autonomous marine vessel navigation systems.

The fact that Navdec is a Polish invention also had influence on the decision of Polferries. - As a Polish company, we’re happy to be able to use our national solutions - assured Jakub Komers, Technical Director of PŻB SA.
