The day before the official inauguration, on October 3rd, MUS authorities, officials and guests attended a traditional remembrance ceremony at the monument honouring "Those who did not return from the sea".

During his inaugural speech, MUS Rector Wojciech Ślączka emphasised the importance of maritime education in an era of rapid technological change, and with these words, he addressed the newly admitted students:

Welcome to our university - it's a joy to have you here. You’re stepping into a remarkable chapter in your lives - a time to gain knowledge, pursue your passions, and shape your identity. We are eager to support you in each of these areas. Have the courage to ask questions, the determination to pursue your goals, and the resilience to turn setbacks into success. I wish for your studies to become a time you’ll look back on with joy. You’ll come to see that the choice you’ve made - the Maritime University of Szczecin - was indeed a very good one," said the Rector.

New vessel for MUS - financing secured

The highlight of this year’s inauguration was the speech delivered by Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Arkadiusz Marchewka, who, on behalf of the Council of Ministers, presented the Rector with an official resolution establishing a multi-year program for the construction of a new training and research vessel for the Maritime University of Szczecin. This is a groundbreaking decision that opens up new opportunities for the university’s development and enhances the quality of practical education for its students.

First-year students oath

A meaningful and solemn moment for the new students was the oath-taking ceremony. After that, the Rector of the Maritime University officially declared the academic year open, followed by a performance of Gaudeamus igitur by the university choir under the direction of Sylwia Fabiańczyk-Makuch.

A significant moment during the ceremony was the official presentation of the dean’s chain by the Rector to Witold Kazimierski, Dean of the newly established Faculty of Geoengineering and Environmental Protection. As in previous years, the ceremony was also an opportunity to present awards, distinctions,  doctoral and postdoctoral promotions. The ceremony was completed with a spectacular parade of first-year students led by the superb (as usual)  Military Orchestra from Świnoujście and MUS Guard of Honour.
