Almost 2.5 million zlotys is the budget of the project obtained by the consortium of the Technology Transfer Centre of the Pomeranian Medical University in Szczecin (CTT PUM) and the Innovation Centre of the Maritime University of Szczecin (CIAM) as support for scientific research and development work, in particular within the scope of commercialisation of their results. The funds will come from the "Innovation-Based Incubator+" programme implemented by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The aim of the MareMed project will be investment in more than ten solutions in medical and maritime industry. The amount of a single grant is up to PLN 100 000. The whole investment process will be supervised by the Investment Committee consisting mainly of enterprise and investment fund representatives. In addition, funds have been planned for promotional activities, business trips to international trade fairs, workshops as well as access to data bases.

The solutions may be proposed by students, research staff, graduates as well as independent inventors for whom it appears profitable to enter into a close cooperation with science.

- The grants may be given e.g. for patent protection, development strategy as well as purchase of the necessary equipment and creation of the first prototypes - says Kamila Leszczak-Byszkiewicz, Director of the Technology Transfer Centre of PMU.

The is the first consortium of this type in the region - the medical and maritime sectors join forces to respond together to market challenges.

- We are very pleased to have entered into cooperation with the medical sector. We expect to be able to invest in minimum 13 new solutions - claims Konrad Frontczak, the President of Centrum Innowacji Akademii Morskiej w Szczecinie Sp. z o.o.

The MareMed partners count on ideas combining the potential of both sectors. In their opinion, they are not as far away as it could seem. An example may be the work of a mechanical engineer on a ship, which is very dangerous e.g. for the skin. This is the area of operation for medical experts.

The consortium has planned two calls for proposals, this and the next year. This year’s call is to begin soon and the last organisational details are being determined.

Anyone interested is requested to contact CTT PUM (medical technologies), e-mail: cttpum@pum.edu.pl or CIAM (marine technologies) e-mail: info@innoam.pl.
