Our University will start cooperation with the Technical University of Catalonia in Barcelona (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya).
On October 30.2013 a letter of intent related to the above mentioned issue was signed by the Vice-Rector for Teaching, Maritime University of Szczecin - Piotr Treichel, PhD, and the Dean of the Faculty of Navigation, University of Barcelona - Santiago Ordás Jiménez.
Both universities have declared joint activities in research, teaching and technology development. The letter of intent is the first step in launching joint ventures whose aim is to establish long-term cooperation.
During the meetings with the authorities of the Catalan university (F. Xaviier Martinez de Oses, PhD, the head of the Department of Science and Engineering, the Dean and Vice - Dean of the Faculty of Navigation) were discussed issues concerning, among others, the possibilities of a double degree at various levels of education, starting from the 1st degree studies up to the doctoral level, vocational education and training offers(of e.g. Baltic Fisheries Training Centre in Kolobrzeg), as well as, short training systems, annual studies, courses and activities of the Post – secondary Maritime School.
Both universities presented the scope of their activities, defining the range of possible joint research. Apart from that the possibility of cooperation within the framework of research projects on exhaust toxicity and contamination detection by satellite was discussed.
During their stay in Spain, the representatives of our university: Piotr Treichel, PhD, Eng. - Vice-Rector for Teaching, Andrzej Bąk, PhD. Eng. Master Mariner - Vice-Rector for Maritime Affairs, Ewa Cerebież Tarabicka from the Department for Foreigners and International Exchange and Katarzyna Opalińska - Rector’s Plenipotentiary for Catalonia, took part in the Polish Days in Reus, during which they attended a meeting in the Reus Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation.Scientific and business potential (patents, developed technology) and the commercial offer of our University have been presented to the entrepreneurs of Reus and Tarragona region.
Technical University of Catalonia (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya) is a public institution of higher education in Barcelona, whose research centres are known, both in Spain and abroad. In addition to teaching and continuous development of the best methods of teaching, the university is conducting research on a global level in the field of new technologies, including aerospace, photonics, bioengineering and energy. The results of research carried out at UPC are used in technological development in many European countries.
One of the university objectives concerning education is, for many years realized, process of internationalization, making the University of Catalonia boast about being one of the largest in Spain in reference to the number of 2nd and 3rd degree enrolled students.
