During the Boatshow Fair in Lodz, (November 15-18) the Maritime University of Szczecin became a member of the International Sailing School Association. Thus, it is one of the entities that provide courses (including Skipper or yacht crew member) with their diplomas and patents recognized in Europe, USA, Australia and New Zealand.
International Sailing School Association (called ISSA) promotes and supports institutions which learn sailing and working on the development of sailing through education in this discipline at all levels and in all types of floating equipment. These tasks are realized in collaboration with the International Sailing Federation (ISAF). Due to the membership in ISSA schools and training organizations dealing with sailing are attributed international profile.
ISSA Meeting in Lodz gathered sailing enthusiasts, dealing both with racing and tourism. Moreover, issues of the Maritime University and ISSA Poland further cooperation were discussed. ‘President of ISSA - Mr. Joan Basacoma, a representative of Catalonian Sailing School, has repeatedly stressed the importance of adopting a large group of well-known respectable institutions such as maritime universities as members of ISSA, which helps to raise the prestige of ISSA and its perception all over the world’- says Vice-Rector of the Maritime University of Szczecin, Andrzej Bak, PhD, Master Mariner who participated in the meeting.
ISSA certificates are documents confirming sufficient knowledge, skills and experience for operating tourist boats at sea. Thanks to them, it is possible to charter boats in Mediterranean countries (Croatia, Greece, Italy, Spain), Scandinavia, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and France. ISSA patents have no restrictions as to the body of water, the sail area and the size of the boat, the only requirement is a non-profit recreational swimming. ISSA was founded in 1969 due to the initiative of the Training Sailing Centre in France, Glenans, as well as sailing schools from Poland, Italy, Switzerland and the UK. Currently several hundred of sailing schools around the world are the members of ISSA, which is a ‘non-profit’ organization.
