On 11 October 2011 in the European Parliament a seminar on the development of maritime occupations was held. The meeting was attended by Director of the Institute of Marine Technology, Janusz Uriah. The theme of his speech was "The development of maritime professions in achieving the objectives of the European strategy for the Baltic Sea region"
Speakers at the seminar were:
- Ms. Anna Wypych Namiotko - Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Infrastructure,
- Jan Kozlowski - MEP
- Lowri Evans - Director General of the EU Maritime Affairs and Fisheries,
- Fotis Karamitsos DG MOVE Director for Transport,
- Eleni Marianou Secretary General of EU regions
- Andrew Krolikowski - Director of Maritime Office in Gdynia.
The organization of the seminar was associated with the Polish work in the European Union under Polish leadership in the so-called Polish Presidency. The seminar attracted a great interest. Representatives from most EU countries and outside the Union attended the meeting.
In addition to the seminar, the director of ITM at the invitation of the Estonian MEP Tunne Kelam (Chairman of the Committee on EUSBSR) attended the meeting of the European Parliament on the Strategy for the Baltic Sea. At the meeting the Director presented the state’s flagship project EUSBSR entitled ‘Create a network of maritime training centers of excellence’, whose Maritime University of Szczecin is the leader.
